A 1.5 meter cyclotron, with circular windings on the inner side of each cover of the accelerating chamber, was used. Experiments were made at 5, 10, 13.6, 14.7, and 17 kilogauss in the magnetic field. The deflection system consisted of two parts, one inside the dee, the other outside; extraction of the beam was studied when both were functioning simultaneously as well as when the outer part was removed. The coefficient of extraction remained practically constant. The deflecting system as a whole was studied at 5 and 10 kilogauss; the voltage at the inner part leads was 23 kv, and at the outer, 30 kv at 10 kilogauss. Thus the beam was extracted from the accelerating chamber with a small angular divergence which permits the use of the small aperture quadruple lenses producing no loss in the ion beam intensity.
