A nuclear power reactor arrangement which is par ticularly compact and has maximum accessibility is designed for marine propulsion purposes. The arrangement comprises a highly rated gas-cooled reactor adapted for horizontal charge, discharge, and control operations, and a plurality of horizontally disposed vapor generating units. The housing is designed so that channels are accessible from either end. Some of the advantages of the arrangement are minimum shielding weight, minimum acceleration of control elements, maximum natural circulation of cooling gas, and lowest possible center of mass.
