On the basis of literature data it can be stated that the experimental data concerning the gamma -radiation induced in Mg isotopes by alpha - bombardment are insufficient: the excitation states of the intermediate nuclei are not known satisfactorily and the gamma -spectrum data are contradictory. the excitation function were determined for the 3 electromagnetically separated isotopes. Thin Mg/sup 25/O and Mg/sup 26/O targets, equivalent to 1.2 mm air were used. The energy of the alpha -radiation was controlled by changing the pressure of the slowing-down gas and determining the gamma -ray yield. From the resonance energies calculated on the basis of the excitation function the resonance energies and the excited states of the intermediate nuclei Si/sup 29/ and Si/sup 30/ were determined, including 7 previously unknown states for the first and 2 states for the second nucleus. The gamma -radiation was found to be much more complex than previously assumed. Bombarding Mg/sup 24/ results in gamma -rays corresponding to the Mg/sup 24/( alpha p)Al/sup 27/ reaction. For Mg/sup 25/ 2 superimposed spectr a are found corresponding to Mg/sup 25/( alpha , p)A1/sup 28/ and Mg/sup 25/( alpha , n)Al and for Mg/sup 26/ the Mg/sup 26/( alpha , n)Si/sup 29/ reaction was confirmed . A micro-electro-chemical separation of Mg from pyridine was also developed. (TTT)
