Expressions are derived for the mean counting rate, mean counting loss rate, dispersion of a number of counts, and dispersion of a number of missed counts for various relations between the dead time and pulse duration and pulse repetition rate. It is shown that the errors due to the dead tlme sharply depend on the relation between these quantities. The formulas derived can be used to evaluate the experimental errors due to the dead time.
