EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION OF THE CHARGE INVARIANCE PRINCIPLE IN THE d + d $Yields$ He$sup 4$ + $pi$$sup 0$ REACTION FOR 400 Mev DEUTERONS (in Russian)
Experiments with a 400 Mev deuteron beam are described in which the d + d yields He/sup 4/ + pi /sup 0/ reaction, forbidden by the law of conservation of total isotopic spin, is investigated. With a reliability of 90% the total cross section of the reaction is shown to be smaller than 1.1 x 10/sup -32/ cm/ sup 2/. The upper limit of the cross section is compared with the cross sections for d + d yields He/sup 4/ + gamma and p + He/sup 3/ yields He/sup 4/ + pi /sup He/sup 4/ + pi /sup 0/ (which is allowed by the isotopic spin selection rules). The data and the theoretical estimations point to the existence of a strong forbiddenness in the d + d yields He/sup 4/ + pi /sup 0/ reaction, and hence confirm the validity of the law of conservation of total isotopic spin in processes of pi -meson production by nucleons and light nuclei.
