Crystallione Ga(Ca/sub 9/H/sub 6/NS)/sub 3/, In(C/sub 9/H /sub 6/NS)/sub 3/, and C/sub 9/H/sub 6/NSTI thiooxinates were synthesized. It was established spectroetrically that gallium thiooxinate dfossociatcs in organic solvents with the formation of Ga(C/sub 9/H/sub 6/NS)/sub 2+/ ion. Indium thiooxinate is inclined to the same dissociation, but to a lesser degree. The values of molar extinction coefficients are measured for gallium ( EPSILON -- 8400) and indium ( EPSILON -ll00) thiooxinates in absorbance maxima. The molar extinction coefficient of thallium thfoooxinate is about 4000, and this confirms its suggested composition C/sub 9/H/sub 6/NSTI. Indium and thallium thiooxinates have the same composition both in organic solvent solutions and in the crystal state. Gallium thiooxinate is formed at a ratio Ga: R = l a 2, so, apparently, a complex Ga(C/sub 9/H/sub 6/NS)/sub 2/Cl or a base thioooxinate . In the tenfold excess of thiooxine, in comparison with the amount necessary for the formation of thiooxinatcs, gallium is extracted at pH 6.5--l0, indium at pH 4-l3, and thallium at pH 9--l4. Under like conditions gallium 8-hydroxyquinolfonate is extracted at pH 3.5--ll and indium 8-hydroxyquinolinate at pH 5-l3. A method was developed for the determination of indium with thiooxine (8-mercaptoquinoline). Indium thiooxinate In(C/sub 9/H/sub 6/NS)/sub 3/ is extracted by toluene at pH 4--l2.5. From 0.5to 60 gamma In in 50 ml can be determined. In an alkaline medium considerably prevailing amounts of Cu, Ag, Au, Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Pt can be masked with potassium cyanfode. Ge, V, As, Mo, W, Re, U, and all the elements which do not form stable sulfides in aqueous solutions do not interfere. Mn, Zu, Hg, Ga, Tl, Sn, Pb, Sb, and Bi interfere. The advantage of the method is the possibility of the determination of gamma -amounts of indium in the presence of highly prevailing amounts of Ag, Au, Pd, Pt without the preliminary separation. The thiooxine method of the determination of indium in an alkaline medium in the presence of potassium cyanide is more selective than the 8-hydroxyquinoline method. (auth)
