An improved process is outlined for the production of C/sub 2/and C/sub 3/ oxygenated organic compounds by the oxidation of propylene. The process comprises reacting propylene at 250 to 450 deg C with oxygen or air in the presence of highenergy ionizing radiation. The dose rate preferably is 10/sup 6/ to 10/sup 9/ rad/hr. (D.L.C.)
