An analysis is made of the characteristics of a singlecrystal scintillation spectrometer with gamma -ray discrimination for measuring neutron energy distributions. The spectrometer is highly efficient, possesses satisfactory resolving power, has large dynamic range, and is practically insensitive to gamma rays. The performance of the spectrometer is demonstrated by controlled measurements of Po-B and Po-Be neutron sources and U/sup 235/ fission neutrons. (tr-auth)
