Title: A FAST ANALOG COMPUTER FOR BEAM ENVELOPES AND PARTICLE TRAJECTORIES

An analog computer method for the calculation of beam envelopes was developed and a system consisting of an analog computer with some additional electronic equipment was constructed. The computer is capable of calculating beam transport systems composed of the following elements: quadrupoles, bending magnets, synchrotron-type magnets with combined focusing and bending action, and electrostatic mass separators. The use of the beam envelope method is demonstrated by a specific example. The sources of error in the system and design improvements are discussed. (M.C.G.)
