An alpha and beta cell exhaust monitor was developed to sample and monitor filtered exhaust gasses for particulate radionuclides. The system will alarm in less than 10 min if the stack exist air-borne concentrations of mixed fission product beta emitters exceed 6.2 x 10/sup -15/ C/cc or if alpha emitter concentrations exceed 1.2 x 10/sup -17/ C/cc. By using known sensitivity and alarm levels, and with knowledge of the flow rates, total stack emissions before alarm activation were calculated. These alarm-point total stack emissions are 1.8 x 10/sup -17/ c for mixed fission products and 5.6 x 10/sup -17/ c for alpha emitters. (auth)
