IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO RADIATION SHIELDING FOR NUCLEAR EQUIPMENT

A reactor shielding of the multilayer type is designed which can be used at high temperatures where separation of boron and bitumen mixtures is likely to occur. The shielding comprhses a gamma absorbent layer nearest the source of radiation, a thermal neutron absorbent layer, a fast neutron absorbent layer, and finally a gamma absorbent layer. The layers may be made out of lead, boroncontaining material, unborated bitumen, and lead, respectively. (D.L.C.)
