The low energy ion bombardment of gold

Journal Article · · Philosophical Magazine
An investigation was made of the sub-surface damage produced in crystal lattices by radiation. Thin films of gold were bombarded with argon ions. The total dose delivered to each specimen was 3.5 x 1017 ions/cm2 in two hours. The effects preduced by a particular bombardment For a grain in the foil bombardment at 22 deg C, the efficiency of point-defect production was estimated to be of the order of 5 x 10-4 point defects retained per incident ion.
