Spectrophotometric determination of microgram amounts of uranium with solochromate fast red

Journal Article · · Analytica Chimica Acta
A method is described for the spectrophotometric determination of micro amounts of uranyl ions with the azo dye, Solochromate Fast Red, which reacts with uranium(VI) in acetate-buffered methanol solution to form an orange-brown colored complex with maximum extinction at 490 mr. Beer's law is obeyed over a wide range of uranium concentrations. Only a limited number of foreign ions interfere, hence this method is generally applicable after removal of interfering ions by anion exchange. Uranium can also be determined in marine materials.
