THE DETERMINATION OF TRACES OF GOLD IN SAMPLES OF PLATINUM BY NEUTRON- ACTIVATION ANALYSIS

A neutron activation method was developed to determine very small concentrations of gold ln samples of platinum. The Harwell nuclear reactor DIDO was used as the source of neutrons. Following irradiation, gold was separated radiochemically from samples and standards. Au/sup 198/ activity was assayed by a discriminated gamma -counting method in which Au/sup 189/ activity produced from activation of platinum is not recorded. Results are quoted for the gold contents of some pure platlnum samples. (auth)
