LIFETIME MEASUREMENTS OF THE FIRST EXCITED STATES IN Os$sup 186$ AND Os$sup 18$$sup 8$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
The lifetimes of the first excited states in Os/sup 186/ and Os/sup 188/ were measured by a centroid shift technique. An electronelectron coincidence spectrometer was used for energy resolution. The halflives are T1/2(Os/sup 186/, 137-kev level) = (8.7 plus or minus 0.4) x 10/sup -10/ sec, T/sub 1/2/(Os/ sup 188/, 155 -kev level) = 0.6) x 10-/sup -10/ sec. The transition probabilities were calculated and compared with those estimated from the singleparticle model, and enhancement factors of 78 plus or minus 4 and 62 plus or minus 5 for the 137 and 155-kev transitions were obtained. The data on Os/sup 188/ are compared with theory. (auth)
