RECONNAISSANCE FOR URANIUM IN THE COAL OF SAO PAULO, SANTA CATARINA, AND RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL

Uranium-bearing coal and carbonaceous shale of the Rio Bonito formation of Pennsylvanian age were found in the States of Siio Paulo, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The uranium oxide content of the samples collected in the State of Sao Paulo ranged from 0.001 to 0.082%. The samples collected in Santa Catarina averaged about 0.002% uranium oxide; those collected in Rio Grande do Sul, about 0.003% uranium oxide. (auth)
