Radiosensitive Stages in the Spermatogenesis of Drosophila melanogaster
7 A preliminary account is given of experiments designed to detect simultaneously complete loss of X or Y chromosomes, deletion in the Y chromosome, and non-disjunction between X and Y chromosomes. A new, doubly marked Y chromosome stock designated sc8YBsis used. After x irradiation with 1,000 r, males with a wild-type X chromosome and the doubly marked Y are mated daily to three females homozygous for the X chromosome markers yellow, apricot, echinus. On the assumption that the determination of nondisjunction will occur only at or before anaphase in the first meiotic division, the results indicate that the seventh brood in particular represents treated pre-meiotic stages and confirm the high sensitivity of meiotic and immediately pre-meiotic stages to the mutagenic effect of x rays.
