STUDY OF THE NIOBIUM-MOLYBDENUM-CHROMIUM SYSTEM (in Russian)

BS>Isothermic sections of the Nb- Mo- Cr system and of the corresponding binary systems Nb- Cr, Mo- Cr, and Nb- Mo were studied on specimens quenched from 1200 deg C by metallographic, x-ray diffraction and hardness testing methods. The specimens were prepared in an arc furnace with W electrodes on a water-cooled plate under an Ar atmosphere. Results indicated a homogeneity region in the Nb- Cr system, corresponding to the intermetallic compound NbCr/sub 2/ at 62 to 68 atomic % of Cr. This region is extended to ll atomic% Mo in the Nb-Mo-Cr system. At 1200 deg C the solubility of Cr in Nb is 11 atomic%; that of Nb in Cr 2 atomic%. In the ternary system an alpha ( beta ) solid solution is formed with a large region of homogeneity near the Mo corner of the diagram. (TTT)
