STUDY OF THE NEUTRON DISTRIBUTION IN BENT AIR DUCTS IN A WATER SHIELD.

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4831638
A theoretical method for the calculation of the neutron flux built up in empty bent ducts by a plane neutron source is presented. The flux is divided into different components which are calculated separately. The reflected neutrons are taken into account by the differential albedos. Three threshold detectors and one detector for thermal neutrons have been irradiated in bent air ducts immersed in the water of the swimming pool reactor SAPHIR. The measurements have been performed at four bend angles (90 deg, 45 deg, 20 deg and 0 deg) the radius of the ducts being either 59 or 125 mm. The results of the activity measurements in the straight ducts are compared with theoretical calculations.
