NEUTRON PROPAGATION THROUGH STRAIGHT AND BENT CYLINDRICAL DUCTS.

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4831562
Fast, epithermal and thermal neutron propagation through straight and bent cylindrical ducts has been studied at the Lid Tank Shielding Facility ETNA which is located near the thermal column of the Avogadro-1 reactor. Axial and transversal flux profiles were measured with threshold detectors and resonance detectors. A Monte Carlo program has been written to calculate the neutron spectra by simulating the geometrical conditions. A program has also been written to calculate the flux in the duct from the last-colllision source in the surrounding medium. The analysis of results for bent ducts was made for fast neutrons by considering the scattering on the walls of the corner and the corner lip effect. (7 refs.) (auth)
