$pi$$pi$ INTERACTION IN FINAL STATE PROCESSES

A method is proposed for considering final state interactions in processes producing two pions. This method is applied to the analysis of the T = 0 pion-pion interaction in the reaction p + d yields He/sup 3/ + 2 pi . It is shown that the anomaly observed by Abashian, Booth, and Crowe can be explained assuming a pi - pi scattering length of the order of two-pion Compton wave lengths. (auth)
