THE BETA-DECAY OF PROTACTINIUM ISOTOPES (thesis)

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4831079
After reviewing several coincidence arrangements in general, a short description of the arrangement used in the investigation is given. Measurements and the interpretation of the radiations in the decay of protactinium isotopes with mass numbers 227, 228, 229, 230,232, 234, and 235 are described. When possible, a decay scheme is proposed and discussed for each isotope. Rotational levels, occurring in the beta decay of the protactinium isotopes with even mass numbers, are also described. A short review is also made of the processes that can occur in a radioactive disintegration and of the fundamentals of the individual particle and collective model. A detailed description is given of a 30 cm double focusing beta spectrometer that was used in the investigation. The main results of the beta and gamma spectrometric measurements are tabulated. 115 references are given. (P.C.H.)
