THE COUPLING MECHANISMS BETWEEN LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSAL WAVES IN A PLASMA

The problem of coupling between longitudinal and transversal plasma waves is discussed. Starting from the basic plasma equations all poasible coupling mechanisma were deduced in a general way. Besides the hithento known mechanisms such as the effect of a pressure gradient, of an external magnetic field, and of a general flow of drift field, a nonlinear internal coupling'' effect which is able to generate electromagnetic radiation was found. The relativistic aspect of the problem is discussed also. (auth)
