GAS-EXPOSURE LABELING OF ORGANICS WITH TRITIUM
Methods for labeling organic compounds with tritium are reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on the modifications of the basic Wilzbach gas- exposure labeling process (long-time, room-temperature exposure of tritium gas and the compound to be labeled). The modifications are primarily concerned with the removal of unwanted tritiumlabeled byproducts formed during the process. Purification processes used in the modified process are discussed. A comparison is given of the common labeling methods: synthesis, recoil labeling, and gas- exposure or a modification of the gas-exposure technique. A table is presented of tritium-labeled materials and the labeling technique used for the compound. (N.W.R.)
