THE MOMENTUM SPECTRUM OF MUONS AT A DEPTH 7.2 kg cm$sup -2$ UNDERGROUND

Journal Article · · Nuovo Cimento (Italy) Divided into Nuovo Cimento A and Nuovo Cimento B
OSTI ID:4829988
The absolute momentum spectrum of muons at a depth of 7.2 kg cm-/ of sandstone rock is measured in the range 2 to 200 Bev/c. The spectrometer and the method of analysis are described in detail. The production spectrum deduced from the data, making suitable assumptions about momentum loss, agrees with that obtained from the muon sea level spectrum, as regards both the absolute rate and shape of the spectrum. The use of Geiger counter trays at five levels makes possible the analysis of multiple events. (auth)
