ANGULAR AND ENERGY DISPERSION OF $pi$to the minus-MESONS IN THE DISPERSED MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE 6-METER SYNCHROTRON (in Russian)
To make effective use of the charged-particle beams of accelerators, their behavior during passage through the dispersed field of the electromagnet must be known. The data may be computed from the known configuration of the magnetic field. Calculations of this type were carried out concerning the movement of pi /sup -/-mesons formed on the internal target of the 6-m synchrotron of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (at Dubna), using formulas which define the horizontal and the vertical motion of charged particles in a symmetrical azimuthal field. Analysis of the data obtained indicate that pi /sup -/-mesons having energies higher than l00 Mev are de-focussed if the divergence of the beam increases by a factor of about 3. Doubled horizontal and vertical focussing is noted at meson energies less than 100 MIev. Decreasing the distance from the target to the center of the magnet enhances the focusing action of the accelerator. (TTT)
