A semi-automatic, direct recording apparatus is described and applied to determination of elements in serum and tissues. Elements with atomic numbers above 22 can be determined directly whereas elements 13-21 require a special vacuum apparatus. The sensitivity and reproducibility of the method for analyses of the following elements in muscle are tabulated: Ca, K, Cl, S, P, Si, Ai, Mg, Tl, Hg, Cr, Se, As, Cu, U, Bi, Zn, Br, Fe, Rb, Sr, and Mn.
