Three series of experiments were carried out. The aluminum oxide catalyst having a grain size of 1 to 2 mm was irradiated at a flux of --0.8 x 10/ sup 13/ neutrons/cm/sup 2/-sec in a reactor. The dehydration of the alcohol was carried out with an aluminum oxide catalyst containing 19.4% CaCl/sub 3/. A number of experiments were run with the incorporation of Ca/sup 45/ in the catalyst (39.1 mc Ca/sup 45/ per gram of catalyst). Finally, the catalyst and the alcohol vapors were irradiated with 800 kev electrons from an accelerator with a dose of 10/sup 20/ ev per gram of catalyst. Neutron irradiation shows a loss in catalytic activity which increases with increasing time of irradiation of the catalyst in the reactor. The incorporation of radioactivity in the catalyst and external irradiation with fast electrons show an increase in catalytic activity. The yield of alpha -dodecene is a maximum with the use of a catalyst containing radioactive Ca/sup 45/. (TTT)
