The irradiation of frozen beef and chicken vegetable pies with dosages of 1 x 10/sup 5/, 3 x 10/sup 5/, and 5 x 10/sup 5/ rads resulted in pies inferior to unirradiated samples in appearance, odor, texture, and flavor. Results are included from preliminary studies on the incorporation of an oxygen scavenger for improving the quality of canned irradiated meat products. (C.H.)
