The chlorination of neutron-irradiated uranium oxide was investigated as a combined decomposition process. The laboratory method developed rs reported, It can be divided into ihree paris: (1) dissolution by a nonaqueous solutron, (2) separation of uranium and plutonium and separation of the fission products on the basis of the different volatilities of ihe water-free chlorides, and (3) rerecovery of uranium by nonaqueous methods and isolaiion of plutonium. A flow diagram of the process is given. (J.S.R.)
