FRICTION AND WEAR OF METALLIDED SURFACES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4828464
Results of friction and wear tests are presented showing the beneficial effects of boriding on the surfaces of inconel X and Hastelloy X. Beryllided surfaces of these same alloys failed to stand up under the 6000 psi bearing stresses which were imposed during these tests at temperatures to 1200 deg F. These tests were of short duration since the data were collected in approximately five hours. During this time friction readings were taken at predetermined points as the specimen temperature was raised to 1200 deg F and then cooled to 150 deg F. (auth)
