A Neutron Flux Distribution Gage; UN MISURATORE DI DISTRIBUZIONI DI FLUSSO NEUTRONICO

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4828007
A device that scans the activity of wires or plates irradiated in a reactor for studying neutron flux distribution is described. Emphasis was given to flexibility and complete automation of measuring cycles. The activity of Au, Cu, Co-Al-Mg, and Dy-Al alloy wires was measured by scintillation detectors. The resolution function was measured by a Au/sup 198/ point source enclosed in a nonactivated Au wire. In measurements on critical or subcritical assemblies the symmetry of this function is more relevant than its shape or width. Epithermal contribution to the activation of Au wires was studied by using Cd cylinders shielding some parts of the wire during irradiation. (auth)
