A boiling reactor moderated and cooled by D/sub 2/O is designed so that it has the advantages of pressurized reactors without the disadvantages of boiling or pressurized reactors. The reactor vessel is provided with two pressure zones, a boiling zone and a reaction zone kept at a higher pressure.
