THE OXIDATION OF BERYLLIUM

Journal Article · · Research (London) (England)
OSTI ID:4827410
One of the problems associated with the use of beryllium in a gas-cooled reactor is that of its compatibility with the coolant gas. Available information on the oxidation of beryllium (at temperatures upwards of 500 deg C) in oxygen and in carbon dioxide, with and without the presence of water vapor, is summarized and discussed in terms of current theories. Progress in thc development of material which is able to withstand the deleterious effect of water vapor is outlined, (auth)
