RETENTION OF $alpha$-PHASE NUCLEI IN $beta$-PHASE WEAKLY ALLOYED URANIUM (in French)

Journal Article · · J. Nuclear Materials
The effect of small additions of Cr, Mn, or Mo on the retention of nuclei of the alpha -phase in BETA -uranium was investigated. The kinetics of BETA yields alpha transformation show that the size and energy of the retained nuclei are greater than those of the nuclei of spontaneous nucleation. It cannot be concluded from this observation that the alpha in equilibrium BETA transformation of uranium is of martensitic nature, The observed memory effect has a completely different character.
