PRODUCTION OF SPIN POLARIZED MASS-THREE BEAMS

Journal Article · · Helv. Phys. Acta, Suppl.
OSTI ID:4824557
A technique is described for producing a 7.2-Mev triton beam having 80 to 90% polarization. In order to produce this beam, a tritium target is bombarded with 16.4-Mev alpha particles; the tritons ejected from the target at a laboratory angle of 45 deg are collimated to form the desired beam. The triton polarization in the beam is measured by scattering the beam in He/sup 4/. (T.F.H.)
