In a search for a polarized neutron beam, neutrons were produced by bombarding thick taigets of lithium deuteride and aluminum with protons of 143 Mev. The polarization of the neutions was investigated as a function of neution energy between 18 and 120 Mev and at angles of neutron production of 25 deg , 35 deg , and 45 deg . An aluminum target and pioduction angle of 45 deg have been chosen for future work, the polarization of the resulting neutron beam varying from 0.135 plus or minus 0.029 at22.5 Mev to 0.308 plus or minus 0.038 at 100 Mev.
