THE PROBABILITY OF SINGLE-PARTICLE TRANSITIONS IN THE Yb$sup 173$ NUCLEUS (in Russian)

The average life of the 35l- and 637-kev levels of Yb/sup 173/, formed by K-capture from the 480-day half-life Lu/sup 173/ was determined by using a multichannel time analyzer. The method used is based on the recording of the coincidence of the x-radiations accompanying the K-captare and of the gamma - quanta associated with the discharge of excited states. The data obtained indicate that the probability of rotational levels agrees satisfactorily with S. G. Nilsson's formula (Kgl. Danske Vidensk. Selskab. Mat.- fiz. Medd., 29, No. 16 (1955); the intensity law is violated because of the strong hindrance of the El transition to the ground state. The anomalous behavior cannot be explained by the collective model of the nucleus, although reference to superfluidity phenomena might help to clarify it. (TTT)
