THERMODYNAMIC INVESTIGATION OF CERAMIC MATERIALS AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES. Quarterly Report, December 15, 1960-March 15, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4824284
Measurements were begun on the change of partial frce energy of oxygen in TiO. At 1375 deg K an emf which decreased with time from 100 to 5 mv in 4 hr was observed. The stabilization of cubic ZrO/sub 2/ using TiO/sub 2/, Nb/sub 2/O/ sub 5/, or Ta/sub 2/O/sub / 5>i plus another metal was studied. Transition metals used with TiO/sub 2/ stabilized cubic ZrO/sub 2/. Phase studies were carried out on the Cr - Zr - O system. High purity boron phosphide was degassed at 1200 deg K until it reached constant weight. It was then decomposed at 1450 deg to constant weight. The residue weighed less than that calculated for an end product of B/sub 6/P. (M.C.G.)
