INELASTIC SCATTERING OF SLOW NEUTRONS ON ARBITRARY CRYSTALS AND THE GENERAL PROBLEM OF RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PHONON SPECTRUM (in Russian)

Scattering of slow neutrons on crystals of arbitrary symmetry with an arbitrary number of atoms in the elementary cell is considered. The rigorous converse problem (no model being employed) of reconstructing the phonon spectrum is analyzed. The possibility of dividing coherent and incoherent scattering is demonstrated. It is found that in order to determine the distribution function of the phonon spectmum frequencies, incoherent scattering on crystals with various isotopic compositions should be performed, the number of the latter not being smaller than the number of various atoms in an elementary cell. It is shown that the polarization vectors for arbitrary values of the wave vector in the reciprocal lattice can be determined from the results of measurement of inelastic coherent scattering (besides the dispersion law).
