STUDY OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A PROTON BEAM ACCELERATED TO 10 Bev IN THE SYNCHROPHASOTRON (in Russian)
The characteristics of the accelerated beams such as the filling of the phase region with particles, the energy dispersion, particle distribution according to amplitude, radial and vertical dimensions, etc., were investigated for the purpose of extracting the particle beam from the synchrophasotron (synchrotron). The phase spread was experimentally determined by analyzing the high-frequency signal from the induced electrodes; this signal is proportional to the number of particles under the electrodes at a given time. The radial dimension of the stability zone was determined on the basis of phase resonance oscillations and was found to be equal to 2.8 cm. Study of the energy dispersion indicated that at the maximum radial phase oscillation, equal to 2.1 cm, the maximum energy dispersion amounts to plus or minus 2.8 Mev. A rotary target was used for measuring the distribution of particles according to their free oscillations in the vertical direction. (TTT)
