The dependence of polarization on energy is investigated for Au/sup 198/ beta decay. The polarization values for Au/sup 198/ are compared with the values for Sm/sup 153/. The polarization significantly differs from unity for Au/ sup 198/ at beta energies of 60, 90, and 120 kev. A spherical condenser is employed to change longitudinal into transverse polarization. The polarization is calculated from the asymmetry of beta scattering in a heavy element. (auth)
