THE DEPOSITION OF THIN FILMS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS BY VACUUM EVAPORATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4822370
An apparatus for depositing, on platinum or aluminum substrates, nearly uniform, adherent films of uranium or plutonium by high temperature and low pressure evaporation is described. Progress during evaporation can be observed quantivatively and deposits of up to 2.8 mgms U/cm/sup 2/ were obtained. Initial successes with plutonium are noted. High frequency heating is employed and the equipment is installed in glove boxes. (auth)
