The effects of whole-body x irradiation of male albino rats in single and fractionated doses on adrenal corticoid secretion was evaluated by comparing basal in vitro output rates and plasma corticoid values with control rats. Only BT values showed any reasonably consistent pattern and suggest that although both single and fractionated doses may increase adrenocortical secretion in the post irradiation period, the effects of the latter appear to be exerted earlier and are generally more intense that the former at comparable periods. Analyses were made on conticoids produced in vivo and in vitro isolated from plasma, preincubation fluid, and from incubation fluid and glands after incubation in the absence or presence of ACTH. No gross abnormalities were found in corticoids produced in vitro. Studies made on the vascularization of adrenal transplants showed no visible indication of a revascularization process. Discussion is also given on studies made on homotransplants, autotransplants, and mesenteric autotransplants, and the isotopic determination of blood volume in adrenal glands and adrenal transplants.
