QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, JULY-AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 1961 ON KJELLER RESEARCH

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4820704
Work carried out in atomic research at Kjeller is described. The construction of the steel containment for the JEEP II reactor is under way. The design of the reactor and auxiliary system is progressing. The NORA reactor was operated with the reference fuel charge to test experimental techniques and to check equipment. A singlecrystal neutron diffraction instrument was put into operation. Further investigations were carried out on iodic acids. The investigation of the sintering properties of UO/sub 2/ as well as the corrosion studies of different canning materials proceeded. The performance of the fuel reprocessing plant was tested with slightiy different fiow sheets. The first fuel charge was removed from the Halden Boiling Water Reactor and new fuel is being installed. The biological investigation of the river Nitelva proceeded and the effects of radioisotopes on organisms and fish were investigated. (auth)
