THE APPLICATION OF RELATIVISTIC ELECTRODYNAMICS OF ELECTRONS TO THE TECHNOLOGY OF MILLIMETER AND SUBMILLIMETER WAVELENGTHS (RADIATION) (in Polish)

The production of microwaves of millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths is treated from both the theoretical and mechanistic points of view. Radiation of charged particles is treated for the cases of (l) uniform, linear motion of a charged particle (Cherenkov effect), (2) non-linear motion of a particle of fixed velocity (i.e., motion in a magnetic undulator), and (3) motion of charged particles undergoing rapid acceleration (i.e., impulse due to nuclear electric fields and electronic gases). The conditions that determine the applicability of classical electrodynamics are discussed. Some newer devices for producing millimeter and submillimeter electromagnetic radiation are presented, including the rebatron, the harmodotron and microtron. (TTT)
