STUDY OF THE Be$sup 9$(d,t)Be$sup 8$ REACTION (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4820252
The differential cross section of the Be/sup 9/a(d,t)Be/sup 8/6 reaction under an angle of 17 deg was measured at neutron energies ranging from 1.125 to 3.8 Mev, together with determination of the angular distribution between 0 and l50 deg , making use of a deuteron beam incident upon a Be foil placed in a magnetic spectrometer. A CsI crystal and a photomultiplier and a 50-channel amplitude analyzer serves as the detector. Resonances were found at neutron energies of 1.16, 1.37, and 2.85 Mev. The angular distributions at 1.4, 2.5, and 3.5 Mev were also measured; the experimental data agreed well with theoretical values if it is assumed that the radius of interaction r/sub o/ = 4.10/sup -13/ cm for E/sub d/= 1.4 Mev and 5 x 10/sup -13/ cm for E/sub d/= 2.5 and 3.5 Mev. The resonances are due to B/sup 11/ nuclei with excitation energies of 16.77, 16.93, and 18.11 Mev. The total formation cross section of the tritons was found to be 60 plus or minus 10 millibarn. A definite correlation has been found to exist between the thresholds of inelastic interaction and the position of certain resonances of the reactions of Be/sup 9/ with neutrons, protons, deuterons and alpha -particles. A similar behavior was noted also in the case of other light nuclei, such as Li/sup 7/ and B/sup 10/. (TTT)
