STUDY CONCERNING THE RECRYSTALLIZATION OF ZONE-MELTED Al CONTAINING WEAK ADDITIONS OF Cu AND Mg (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. rend.
OSTI ID:4820163
The recrystallization rate of high-purity Al containing slight amounts of Cu or Mg as impurities is found to depend on the impurity concentration and the temperature. Below a centain critical concentration (2 x 10/sup -4/ at.% for Cu and 20 x 10/sup -4/ at.% for Mg) the recrystallization rate is essentially that for pure Al. A second recrystallization mechanism is observed at higher concentrations, which retards the recrystallization rate. This second mechanism has the same form for Cu and Mg, but the magnitudes of the effects are different. (T.F.H.)
