NUCLEIC ACID FORMATION AND ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT-INDUCED MUTATION IN BACTERIA: SOME CONSIDERATIONS IN LIGHT OF RECENT ADVANCES

Journal Article · · J. Cellular Comp. Physiol.
Results are reported from a series of studies on the effect on mutation induction and desoxyribonucleic acid synthesis in Escherichia coli of ultraviolet light and certain analogs which may be incorporated into ribonucleic acid to interfere with macromolecular function. The effects of 5-hydroxyuridine on reactions induced by ultraviolet light are presented in detail. Possible mechanisms involved in desoxyribonucleic acid replication are discussed. (C.H.)
