ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF PHOSPHORUS IN BERYL ORE

An analytical method is described for the determination of P in beryllium ores. A weighed portion of the ore sample is fused with sodium hydroxide. The cooled melt is leached with water and the solution neutralized. Ammonium nitromolybdate reagent is added and the precipitated ammonium phosphomolybdate separated. This is purified by a further precipitation before drying and weighing. Specialized techniques minimize the spreading of dry materials and reduce the hazards from inhalation of Be dust. (C.H.)
